I don't know much about Russian history so I don't know how valid the statement Mr. Putin is making. First thing that comes to mind with this is Iran. Letting the Russians know that they are friends or letting the muslims in Russia know they are welcome.

Currently Russia is multi-ethnic state, many people here should understand it. Chechens (and other Caucasian people) are citizens of Russia. So noone can stop them from migration to the Russian cities. And they are actually migrating.
How do you like when 100 chechens invade small town? They moved as far as Russian north, including Karelia, causing many troubles... |

That's what I imagined. I remember there was this site a while back full of multicultural propaganda for every country in Europe. It pretty much was creating historical and racial myths. There was one claiming that Italian language is highly influence by arabic just because of the invasion of Sicily for example.

It's a disgrace. Svin is right. Putin is not acting different to Western Europe's leaders. It is the game of the everything goes, in order to achieve a status of a strong bloc of power/influence even (and especially) at the expense of the national identity.
They keep using the name of the old nations, but to mean something entirely different. This should be seen as an example of why the idea of Europe is --more than necessary-- the only viable option in the future. The alternative to this is multicultural states constructed around the borders of the old nations, with the subsequent inevitable ethnic destruction of the native peoples of Europe. This is why conforming a stable and strong idea of Europe is so important, and why Europe becomes an ideal for otherwise opposed to it Nationalists.

But, Svin, can you tell us more about that add you displayed in your post. What is that? A political campaign add? If yes, then campaign for what? And, the most important thing: when and in which context Putin uttered these words?
Probably Putin wants to say that Russia is opposed to American-Zionist aggressions in the Muslim world. That may be not be question of any "love" for the Muslim world, but the question of interests. Because Russia is threatened by the Angloamerican West as well. All those missile systems waiting to be installed in Poland and Czech Republic are not really meant to fight off Iranian and North Korean missiles (only an idiot could believe that, those missiles and missile-defence systems can be pointed only against one country: Russia). There are plans of "exporting democracy" to Russia as well and the impudent Yankee Judaean politicians don't even hide it, they talk about it publicly. And again there is the question of Iran. Although Russia has yielded to the American pressure and allowed sanctions to be imposed on Iran (those sanctions are quite mild, due to Russian and Chinese conditions), Russia is still equipping Iran with weapons (although there are many disagreements between these two countries, due to payment delays on the Iranian side). Some say that an eventual American attack against Iran is a general probe before an attack against Russia. So it may be just Putin's message to Yankee Judaea: "No, I am not afraid of you." Or it may be just pandering to Russia's domestic Muslims minorities (this variety is much worse). Last edited by Marcus Marulus; Monday, April 2nd, 2007 at 10:32. |

Uhm, I wonder if this attitude might be another reaction to a non-sucessful "West"-Russia meeting in 2001...
