What do you think first when you meet a Finn? Please be honest! I would like to know anything. Good and bad.

One of my father's cousin is married to a Finnish man. He is rather nice I think, except he is a bit quiet. Always at the family meetings and gatherings he keeps to himself and speaks very little. Of course I can't judge the entire Finnish population by the attitude of one man but it seems most Finns are relatively "cold" in an emotional sense. Not a lot of interaction, mostly keep to themselves, etc
I have noticed a lot of Finns seem to be very proud of their country. I suppouse the only thing I have noticed is that some Finns involved in nationalism have some rather..pseudo racialist ideas that do not appeal to me or that I respect very much.

Finnish people seem to be really nice.
![]() Um, I haven't actually *met* a Finn in the sense of in real life, but that's my impression. Except I didn't like Tennyson's objectification of women. But that's one man, not the whole country.

I was in Finland five years ago...a wonderful country, I mean nature... As for people, I had no occasion to get to know them because I was there only for a quite short period.

I don't get to see many Finns, so it's hard to say. The few I've seen looked as strangers to me. I mean phenotypically. I can't relate them at first sight with any of the bigger groups of Europeans. I suppose that they stand on a group of their own. I don't know about the character though.
What I have observed on forums is the insistance of some Finns to relate themselves to Scandinavians. As if their uniqueness was an issue to them. They do share a geographical space and climate with Scandinavians, which it should point to common character traits. But only to an extent. Apart from that, I've had the feeling that Finns lack of an ideological spirit (not political, but ideological). As I said, my personal knowledge of Finns is too little to be able to judge beyond simple observations and mostly speculation.

I have befriended a few Finnish people over the last few years, and I have yet to meet one who wasn't friendly and intelligent. And as a Scandinavian (you know...), I do feel a bond with them, however strange and exotic they may seem at times. In the past I have exaggerated the Scandi-Finnish relationship to prove a point, but nonetheless there are some common cultural traits, I believe.
Overall, very nice people.

An obscure valley would be for me the sole habitable earth." |

Never met any. They must be a rarity here.

I've only met two Finns in my lifetime, a 90 year old woman with alzheimer's and a smoking 20 year old hottie.
So far I'm 50/50. lol. Nah I have yet to get any negative inclinations. |

I like Finns in general but I feel little bit uneasy after episode I had with one Finn from another internet forum, who probably being drunk and having emotional outburst called me a thief.

Reason I called you a thief was Karelia. My grand-father is dying, he is in hospital now. He will never see his home again. He will die in hospital and not in the place which was his home and land. That land is stolen by russians. It's not your individual fault and I should not have accused you. I hope you understand my reason and accept my appoligize. /Hweinlant |

People on another forum said that they all have Uralic features, but I personally could easily confuse these students with Danes or any other north Germanics. |
