Default My Take on the Universe

I wrote this for another forum. What do folks think? Good? Crap? Any ideas need expanding on?

Quote:
What is the universe? Who created it? Where did humanity come from? What is the importance of race? What role do the gods have in any of this? These are important questions that I will attempt to look at. This thread might not be very well written, my apologies. It is more a process of putting my jumbled thoughts onto paper. I hope it might be relevant for some of you reading this. Perhaps it might suggest ideas that you had not considered. Also there may be things within it that you would like to comment on. There are bound to be errors. Feel free to point them out!

First the universe. What is it? Well in a nutshell it is everything. Everything that can be, everything that has been, everything that is, everything that will be exists in the universe. But science raises an interesting question that for me, as well as many scientists, opposes the original infinite universe model. The universe expands. We know this by measuring the red shift in stars. It, for me, pretty much proves that the universe is finite. If it is finite it has to exist in something, it has to expand into something. What? Your guess is as good as mine. To be frank we do not know. So what role did the gods have in the creation of the universe? None. The gods are as much a creation of the universe as we are. They are as much bound to Wyrd as we are. Wyrd if you like is the rules in the game of chess. The gods and our selves are the pieces. We can move any number of ways, as long as we stick to the rules. Who made the rules? We don’t know. Some Odinist's have difficulty believing in forces higher than the gods, they are the pinnacle and that is that. But I believe that there must be some sort of conscience entity behind the universe, and someone must have woven the web of Wyrd. In terms of creation the Eddas and cosmography have a lot in common. In the Eddas the universe is born from the interaction of Muspell and Niflheim. In cosmography it is thought that the universe was, before the big bang, a cold empty void like Ginnungagap. It then began to heat up very quickly. In both cases it is the creation of an ordered structured universe out of chaos.

So what about us? Where do humans come from? Well I believe in the cosmographic picture of the formation of the solar system. I even believe in evolution. For me the gods did not create the biological organism that is man, they manipulated what was already there. For me the multi-regional model makes more sense than out of Africa chiefly because of the racial division in man. I am no expert but I think it is to short a time for racial difference to appear in 100, 000 years. Also there is much evidence that Europeans, at least, were descended from Cro-Magnon. Multi-regionalism holds that humans evolved independently from isolated populations of Homo erectus through out Eurasia and Africa. For me this is highly possible. Racial purity after all is largely myth, there has been fringe interaction along the borders of Caucasoid, Negroid, and Mongoloid for some time. This, of course, was counter balanced by selective breeding within groups, which is why we have races. So the genes that make all races human could well have been spread. To make sense of what I say next I will need to clarify what I believe the gods to be. In simple terms the gods are/were biological entities, although with spiritual powers beyond our comprehension. I believe that the gods manipulated the primitive modern humans to produce us. All ancient myths have stories of the gods moving, living, and even mating with humans. I believe that within us we have the DNA of the gods. Nowhere near as complex as their own genetic code, but non-the less we can call them our ancestors. Their greatest gifts to us though were conscience and the soul. Conscience is our self-awareness, it is our questioning ability. It is what, possibly, separates us from other animals. Most other animals are interested in reproducing and not much else. Humans however are so much more than that. I have written about the soul in another thread, so I don’t really want to repeat that here. Suffice to say the soul is our spiritual connection to the gods. It is also what survives us after death and is re-incarnated.

So where does race come into this? Well as I said the gods are/were advanced biological entities. Each race has its own gods. We reflect what our gods looked like. Don’t get me wrong I don’t believe in the stereotype Thor, Odin etc. But if you accept that the gods were biological as well as spiritual entities then they had to look like something. So race is our heritage from the gods both biologically and spiritually. We are their descendents.
