That may well be true. I suppose ultimately, it is only speculation.
The Gaelic languages were likely derived from Celtiberian (with some pre-Gaelic Irish additions possible, I suppose), while the Brythonic languages are allegedly more rleated to the Gaulish.
I admit I don't know a great lot about the Centum IE distinctions, etc
I just understand the Q-Celtic/P-Celtic distinction.
The Celtic languages are supposedly closest related to the Italic branch anyway
