The source seems kind of bias...

In my opinion, most chemicals can pose a danger-- that is why we must be careful with them. But many "harmless" chemicals used in manufacturing processeses can cause harm once they react together-- for example, sodium benzoate and ascorbic acid can react to form benzene, which is known to cause a variety of nasty diseases...

But it is obviously better to use "safer" alternatives...
