One thing to notice is that Alexander Litvinenko was a former KGB agent, he defected in 2000 and he was given shelter in Britain. If Russia is not the totalitarian USSR anymore, why would Britain shelter a former spy and defector, introducing this way an element of open hostility against Russia?
Perhaps the latest moves of approaches between the EU and Russia could answer this question.
Next follows related news on the case of Litvinenko. Also a news on the disruption of a EU-Russia summit in Helsinki. Not directly related.. or is it?

It's a likely scenario that Litvinenko had some kind of a fall-out (excuse the pun) with notorious Zionist crook Boris Berezovsky - who, after being caught funnelling billions out of Russia to feed both Israel and his own pocket, has been under the protection of the Blair regime - who is, of course, acting under orders from the Jewish Board of Deputies.
It's likely that Litvinenko was "sacrificed" in a bid to create a martyr and bring a ton of bricks down on Putin, who has become an enemy of international finance. Hardly a surprise when he supports freedom of opinion in academia, pro-family laws (such as the sterility tax), and has taken measures against immigration, American aggression in the Middle East, and the dollar hegemony.
One unusual quote which interests me in light of the events of the past week came from Vladimir Zhirinovsky, while speaking in St. Petersburg last April: "Great Britain has been masterminding anti-Russian actions for a hundred years already. Great Britain is our prime enemy throughout history."
"Our oligarchs found an asylum in London. Terrorist Akhmed Zakayev was also granted a political asylum there. Our country’s enemy, oligarch Boris Berezovsky, is hiding there too. There is a flight route Moscow-London-Moscow. I hate flying this route to that scary gloomy city. As long as the British government and Great Britain exist, they will continue to plot against us."
