In general, I must agree with Milesian. However in the last decades the direction of this direct influence (Britain to America) has been reversed in many aspects (America to Britain). I am not sure how this swift in direction affects the matter of things, if at all. From a simple angle it can be seen as just an internal game of influences and hegemony. But one would have to consider if this swift responds to some planned strategy of powers. Hard to say.

Up until after WWII British strong position of influence over Europe was enough to ensure the allegiance of European nations to Westernism. From the post-war period --as a direct consequence of America's infiltration in Europe through Britain-- and until a few decades ago America had its heydays over Western Europe. Here, one must absolutely consider that America had the power and the resources to keep the advance of The Allies farther into the East. After all, Stalinist Russia was not a better option for them than Hitlerist Germany. Or, was it?

In fact it was not only a better option but an excellent option. With virtually every nation of Western Europe weakened, a division with Eastern Europe would ensure the absolute hegemony of British-American interests. The West was theirs. The East could wait for now. So, instead of pushing eastwards, they met in Yalta with Stalin and there they sailed the future of Europe, leaving the East to their fate and to Stalinist ambitions while occupying the West economically first and culturally later. Alright, they called it liberation but so do they call liberation the invasion of Iraq and of any country where they move their troops to safeguard their own interests.

In the last recent decades we've seen the sequel of Westernism and of American hegemony --both external and internal-- in Atlantism. In a time when the balance of powers which were set in Yalta have started to change and where the position of power of America in the World is trembling and the influence of British-American Westernism has been challenged by the recovering of Europe, the machinery of Atlantism is expanding the work started by Westernism in Yalta. This is clear in the expansion of NATO towards the East in a constant provocation to Russia.

I posted a text about this recently.
