Regarding the division, why not use the usual literary movements division?

Something like (I'll start in the 18th century just for you to get the grip):
  • Romanticism
  • Gothic Novels
  • Transcendentalism
  • Realism
  • Naturalism
  • Symbolism
  • Modernism
  • Surrealism
  • etc...
