You are correct, there was Italian partisans. And yes, I do understand that the people didnt target a single group of people. The Romans showed a lot of hostility and violence towards lots of different tribes spread out throughout the world.
As far as Romans go, they were clearly very determined and did not want any obstacle. The Mythological tells of Troyans, but I think it is more realistic what you mentioned and from what I have read of in the past as well, A mix of Etruscans and Italics, since early on the Etruscan evcidence was very clear.
