Re: What are your favorite historical films?
Arthur is presented as being a Romano-Britain, roman from his father's side and briton from his mother's side which makes sense and has credibility since the "real" Artorius must have been a romano-britain dux who hold the lines against the anglo-saxon invaders.
As for the sarmatian knights, they are a true element of late imperial Rome and were present not only in Britain but also in the Iberian Peninsula. Lancelot, Gawain, Bors, Galahad, Dagonet and Tristan, the "knights of Arthur" are all presented as sarmatians and, as you can see on the movie, they are a pretty heterogeneous bunch (Gawain is stocky and not very tall, with blonde hair while Tristan has a "danish" look not very different from Viggo Mortensen (both are danish in real life) and Lancelot has a more "iberian" look (he is welsh in real life) which gives them a further depth in terms of historical realism: ancient populations were tied by etho-cultural bonds not similarities in phenotype.
As for Antoine Fuqua (the black director), he directed a good movie, I have no problem or see how his ethnicity can influence the movie since he based the movie on book references... and the script was written by another person (David Franzoni).... and the movie co-directed with Jerry Bruckheimer...
