Re: Spain will 'not be a Catholic country within 20 years'
I can understand your surprise, but for someone that on the last 10 years has been seeing how an important part of our youth moved from the "I believe in the One upon us, but not in the ones below Him" to the "I hope there were no [insert random disqualification here] religions in the world", it's not surprising at all. And while Zapatero and the last decades of his party are to blame for some issues concerning Catholicism (the banning of its teaching on public schools, the support of the construction of Mosques, the extirpation of the statue of Santiago Matamoros from the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, etc.), it's also true that they are only opening the Trojan horse some liberals/freemasons installed during the XIX and early XX centuries, an exhaustive work nearly materialized on 1931 with the proclamation of the II Republic (fortunately stopped six years later) and the (in)famous speech of Manuel Azaña, in which among other things, he coined the phrase "España ha dejado de ser católica" (Spain is no more Catholic), affirmation certainly exaggerated I might add, although it's also true that urban centres such as Madrid, Barcelona and València were 40%/50% atheists then, that's why some people considered the uprising of the Nationals in the Spanish Civil War as a crusade to re-catholicize Spain.
