Russian mafia is quite, surprisingly, well established in the USA already. It was already before the collapse of the USSR actually, in the former Bundesrepublik Deutschland (West Germany) and Israel.
I would recommend the following book on this matter:
I've read the Dutch translation
("De Russische Maffia") and found it to be really great. It reads like a novel
