Yugoslavia burst because of outside 'influences', as well as because
of corrupt leadership. As a joined economy it would've been succesful, but years of incompetence brought it down.
Let's not kid ourselves, if Germany had the same leadership, and foreign powers trying to rip it apart, by now, it would consist of at least 3-4 independent states ( after a bloody war between protestants and catholics ). Today we'd have maybe 10 "different" german languages.
