I completly agree with that. A nation can exist without a State or even institutional structures of its own (Brittany for the last 2 centuries), a State can exist without a nation corresponding to the borderlines : the USA, France, former Yugoslavia, the
Karl der Große Empire (but it was long ago and the context was different I must say), the Napoleone Buonaparte one... They all include several nations and/or ethnies or parts of nations or ethnies. Of course the ideal situation is when a state corresponds to a nation, like in Danemark.
I voted for ethnic nationalism. I see that a majority of people voted for it too.

Well, in my opinion ethnnic, cultural and romantic nationalisms are the only real nationalisms. I mean, religion, state and race don't constitute nations. Nations are made by a cultural identity, a common History, most of the time a territory, and the conscious to be a distinct group. If you have this 4 elements, you have a nation. If you defend these 4 elements you're a nationalist. If you forbid your neighbour's History to be taught, you try to eradicate his culture and language, you invade his territory and try to manipulate people's mind and beliefs, you're an imperialist and an enemy of the nationalists. State nationalism is not a nationalism, its simply statism and it's an imperialism. A true nationalist is against all imperialisms, may they be American, French, German, English, Chinese, Islamic. A true European nationalist wants the Europe of the 100 flags (concept invented by Yann Fouéré in a famous book).
