Re: French hero's welcome for Betancourt
Betancourt or Bethancourt is a Norman surname. At least it is the name of Jean de Betancourt, a Norman Conquistador in the Canary Islands under licence of Castille.
The Betancourt, Betancor and other variations of the name is most extended in the Canary Islands. And it is possibly from there that it spread later to South America, not necessarily in old times.
