You are making wrong comparasion here..You are mixing West and East Europe,and West Europe was always in better position then East Europe is.. France,UK and Spain would have enough power to defend the rest of Europe ...East Europe was too weak to defend agains strong Russia,but West and South Europe were always stronger then East Europe is..that is the main reason why they controlled East Europe and not West,or South..and one more thing; way how Russia can control the rest of Europe is energy,they don't need strong army for that...West Europe is in a lack of gas and oil and i don't see a reason why would do that; better to have good economical partners then strong enemies,right?
