To rescue me from harrassment? It's pretty unlikely. In Toronto as (16 or 17 year old) girl and a man were fighting on a subway train, the girl pulled a knife, and then she was shot. No one stopped it and the train had many passengers on it. It was the first shooting on the metro. A friend was mugged and no one came to her rescue either, despite there being people around...

I think there are good people who would help in a pinch like this but they are becoming more and more rare because they are afraid to be hurt themselves, or they are afraid to be arrested for assault or something along that line.
