*Shrug* -- it's a bit like Vietnam in 1968: whoever succeeds as president is going to have to make some decision. I don't see that many alternatives to withdrawal at the moment. America's strategic objectives (control of the Middle East) will remain in place but they will have to find some other means of implementing them. In passing, that master of realpolitik, Zbigniew Brzezinski, is an advisor to Obama. Possibly it will be a phased withdrawal with some other security doctrine being implemented. US grand strategy will not change, maybe only the means of implementing it.
