I think reputation points are slightly more encouraging - one can compare ratios of posts to points.
Is an emerging member likely to win awards? I don't know. Actually I'm not even sure if we're active enough on this forum. I think we need something to encourage qualitiy new members rather than forum cliques.
I'm well aware that I am very much a new member myself, mind!
