Tourism is the main industry in Malta. The population in Malta swells heavily in summer leading to financial income but also strains on our resources. Most of our tourists are of Germanic origin (these are the sun-loving type generally, totally ignoring 7000 years of history), however after EU entry, our fratelli Italiani started to feature more and more probably due to the fact that most Maltese speak Italian making it easier for Italians.

I am in favour of tourism, especially if tourists are really interested in our History and Culture. Obviously I prefer European tourists, in particular if female... :p
