I agree with the rest of your post so have snipped it out. The USA pays more
lip service to egalitarianism than anyone else, and there is a surface veneer of back-slapping familiarity, equality, and democracy -- but that's as far as it goes. It is in fact a highly stratified society where the possibility of changing one' station in life -- public propaganda notwithstanding -- is much more limited than Europe.
The United States is an
ugly society and Americans are an
ugly people in every sense of the word. And this is coming from someone who has spent over ten years in the USA and doesn't jump to ill-informed conclusions (nor wishes to insult anyone gratituously). I'm fine with people from Ireland, Spain, Italy, Finland, Germany, etc. I'm not comfortable with Americans. Nor with what passes for culture in the USA.
