today's society is far from perfect, esp. in the social aspect of things, but there's no going back and frankly, i wouldn't want to give up all the tangible scientific advances for some fantasy of a utopia that never existed in the first place.

Nice strawman. I dont believe anybody here ever advocated "turning back the clock"(although Chesterton did have an interesting argument involving that) but getting society "back on track". I myself stated earlier in this thread:
