@ étoile: of course we are never happy, if mankind would be happy with how things are, do you think we'd have created such advanced sciences and progress? Apart from how sucky the world is today, it is advanced. If mankind were intrinsically happy, we'd still be cavemen who never bothered to invent fire because raw meat tastes good too.
so basically you're agreeing with me - well if you had quoted my post in it's entirety! if i remember well i said something along the lines of - the older generation say that we're lucky because we have mod cons - which effectively are results of scientific progress.

then again how many times have we thought that the grass is greener on the other side? then we get to the other side and find it's not that much greener after all?

i think it's all a matter of perspective. most of you are much younger than i, in fact i'm probably the mama of this forum! eventually you'll learn that life is much easier if you look at the bottle and see it as half full rather than half empty.

i'm not saying "rest on your laurels" or "go with the flow". no such thing! if that was my attitude, then i wouldn't be here would i? i would probably be knitting scarves or some such thing ...... or partying ye right!

try to do away with negative feelings. they really don't serve you any purpose whatsoever. ultimately it's much better to be proactive, and to be proactive one must first be optimistic. otherwise all is lost.

are any of you ready to accept defeat? I'm not!
