Answering to the thread - I dont think its particularly true, but it really depends how you look at it. Historical details often end up being the main constituents of an identity leading to an ethnicity being formed, and after a number of years, revisionism is generally in society considered impossible, and thus rarely happens. Therefore I dont think there was any reason to anticipate truth or reasonableness in the concept of ethnicity anyway, since its based on a vague and entirely social concept, identity. Meaning that, my answer will be that the question is irrelevant.
