Survivalism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In your opinion, how important is it to have the skills required for basic wilderness survival (i.e. building a shelter, finding sources of food and water, making a fire, etc.)?
I've always been a sucker for conspiracy theories and one of the constant themes seems to be the idea that the luxuries we currently have are, sooner or later, going to be ripped from underneath our finger tips. The result being that we are forced into a much more primitive state which would require the ability to survive independent of food markets, running water, electricity, etc.
I keep a rucksack in my closet full of a variety of supplies that I can pretty much grab and go if need be. Basic things like firesteel, two knives, a compass, collapsible wash basin, a cloak I made out of a few meters of wool and a waterproof drop sheet, and so on and so forth.
So what's your take? Important? Unimportant? Am I insane?
