MOSCOW, 19 January - RIA News. Up to 15% of the young generation in Russia adhere to nationalistic views, the first deputy of the head of MVD Aleksandr Chekalin stated on Saturday.
"If 4,6% of the whole population share nationalistic views, in the youth medium the number is up to 15%", said Chekalin during his speech at the "National security of Russia today" conference in Moscow.
This, he noted, is supported by statistics, showing an increase in extremism related crimes. According to the data of MVD, in 2004 there were 139 criminal cases related to international relations, in 2005 - 152 criminal cases, in 2006 - 263, and in 2007 - 356.
According to Chekalin, international relations have a direct effect on general national safety.
"Religious extremism remains to be a major problem, and is actively used today by international extremist forces to loosen the power of the state", added Chekalin.
