Why not this way?
a) Those Mesopotamian myths are usually considered older and
b) the parts of the Bible that are influenced by them show signs of editing, according to this theory, meaning that the myth has been adapted to fit the scheme of its author. For instance, the luminaries in Genesis 1 were conceived of in other myths as divine entities, while in Genesis they are stripped of such attributes.

EDIT: I can't back the above since I haven't done my research on Mesopotamian sources thoroughly, but it's a common line of thought in comparative religion that I reproduced. Shortly I'll post something that is fully backed though, concerning Genesis.
