Default Re: Religious decline in Europe?

The decline or perseverance of religion is something that varies from country to country. Europe's empty churches, as opposed to America's vibrant "Christianity" (all those mad Evangelical preachers, yelling about imminent "rapture" and "talking" to Jesus every evening and morning at coffee...) is one of the favourite myths of the neocons.

However, whenever I hear about predictions of a "new religious" age and of the imminent end of modernity, it arouses some concerns in me, especially when I hear such predictions coming from thinkers who reek of "neoconism", in lesser or bigger degree.

What kind of revival of religiosity are they talking about? Maybe some of them, when they make such statements, in fact think of a fake religiosity a la Leo Strauss, in the interests of the Empire (USA, EU and British dominions - the new USSR), whereby the new ruling order would be sanctioned as a "divine order" and wars would be religiously and theologically explained...and not any more in strictly rationalistic categories, as has been usual since the Enlightenment. There are such ideas, deplorably not only in Evangelical, but also in some "Catholic" (but at the same time Westernist) circles. Even the spectre of Carl Schmitt is inovked...
