Is it my imagination, or has the political class very rapidly turned into media obsessed freaks with no sense of responsibility? It seems that as soon as a Baby Boomer/68er gets into government then the dignity of their office takes a nose-dive. President Chirac was far from perfect, but he was at least presidential; President Sarkozy dragged himself down to the level of some crappy TV presenter on his first few days in office. Could anyone imagine another French President running around in a New York Police Department T-shirt, or getting drunk at a G8 meeting, or getting a divorce right after taking office?
