It is just my guess. There was already a discussion on that and even Crvena Zvezda agreed with my guess. Last year USA and Serbia signed a military agreement, nay, two of them. America has been wanting to improve the military cooperation for years.

This is in the realm of pure speculation. So far they speak of neutrality only. But some of Putin's moves could speak in favour of some scenario similar to the one envisioned by you.
