I looked through the styles again, and I think that what is missing is a few more "mellow" styles, where the background is not light but also not all dark, and the contrast between background and font is just so high that you can read without any problem.
The problem with a too dark background is that the contrast between background and font usually needs to be quite high, which is tiresome for the eyes. But I agree that what is also most tiresome for the eyes are those that are too light. I don't use them.
There are different variants of mellow also, the font can be darker than the background for instance, which is pleasant to read. But the best example of what I mean by mellow that we have now is Aizkorri. I know it looks 'boring', but it is good IMO.
