It seems I've become a resurrector of old threads.
Who ever wrote this article should do a little bit more reading into the works of Robert E. Howard, though. As an avid Conan fan since childhood, I can safely say that Conan and his people - the Cimmerians - were not modeled after any such Greek tribe.
The Cimmerians in Howard's work were, in fact, modeled after proto-Celts. Howard, himself, said that in his fictional universe the Cimmerians were the forefathers of the Gaels.
As for the Greeks, there was already a people in Howard's universe who were modeled after them; that is, the Corinthians and, to a certain extent, the Argosseans.
As much as I hate to admit it, I'm a Conan nerd to the core. I've argued amongst my circle of friends, who are also Conan fans, that one of Howard's influences during the creation of the Cimmerians were the Celts who inhabited ancient Gallaecia in Spain. Howard, while leaving out certain key historical details in some places and adding his own in others, was no stranger to history. I'm sure he researched
The Book of Invasions and knew well about the Milesians.
