If a migrant does not look like they're related by blood to the host nation then people will naturally feel a certain distance. We cannot reinvent human nature.

That's right. The same way a most people would prefer to adopt children who look similar to them so that the bond between child and parent is closer. If someone adopts a Chinese child they are reminded by the questions of others (and by their own eyes) that the child is not completely theirs.
Of course adoption and immigration are not exactly the same. A thirty-year old electrician from Poland has a much stronger sense of self than a newborn baby!
