School ban kids from wearing Scotland strip

A SCHOOL have banned pupils from wearing Scotland tops in gym classes in case they offend other students.

Headteacher Peter Reid ordered PE staff to extend the "no football colours" rule to cover the national strip despite the team's Euro 2008 triumph against France.
Pupils who turned up with the tops following Wednesday night's historic 1-0 win against France in Paris were stunned to be told to change.
Yesterday, parents of youngsters at Broxburn Academy, West Lothian, said the school were taking political correctness and tolerance policies too far.
One dad said: "I'm all for tolerance and respect for different peoples and cultures but Scottish children should be free to express pride in their national heroes."
Guidelines issued to schools by local authorities state they should outlaw clothing which could "potentially encourage faction".
But Broxburn pupils insist staff didn't extended the rule to the Scotland strip in previous terms.

Mr Reid, who took over as head last month, refused to comment.
But sixth year pupil Rory MacPherson, 17, said: "Loads of us were wanting to wear Scotland strips after the win against France.
"People say the headmaster thinks it could be racist and may offend people from other countries but I've never seen any incidents like that.
"Pupils wore Scotland strips last year and nobody bothered but it's got a lot stricter since Mr Reid joined."
A West Lothian Council spokesman said it was up to staff how to interpret the guidelines.
He added: "Broxburn's policy of not allowing any football strips in school is to prevent discrimination."
