He is the only decent American politician I know of. He appears to be combining a somehow conservative (in the American sense of word) social worldview with the anti-war stance, a phenomenon of extraordinary rare occurrence in the modern American policy. In fact, maybe there are other politicians like him as well, but I am not that well acquainted with their political scene.
According to some independent estimates, support for him is growing in some states, but the official media prefer to hush it up, putting forth Hillary, Obama and Giuliani as the only candidates with chances to win.
But, given the present state of affairs in the American politics, his chances of winning are practically tantamount to nil. Nevertheless, we should hope (maybe even pray?) that change is possible, because the America as it is now - when I say now, I don't mean just Bush, but I am referring to the last roughly one hundred years of American imperialism, since Teddy Roosevelt - is a grave danger both to the European civilization and culture and to the rest of the world.
Miracles do happen sometimes...at least some people believe so...
The monstruous US military power (but even soft power exerted via media and pop-"culture") makes it virtually impossible for anyone to oppose them in the open field, so the only thing we can hope is that rational behaviour and republicanism, instead of now prevailing imperialism, will gain the upper hand in the USA. I am not sure if it is possible with regard to their ideological messianism, which has become so deeply engrained in their spiritual tissue, both of the political class and one larger part of their populace. Maybe the hope resides also in the perspective that their population will once realize that this whole gigantic power is aimed at them as well.
A distinguished American military-political analyst (unfortunately, I can't remember his name or provide the link, but I will do it as soon as I recollect it from my memory) has recently said that the American military may be used in future to fight domestic wars (insurgencies, as they like to term it).
Apart from restoring classical republicanism, another possible salvific scenario for the world would be the break-up of America into several independent states, a division being carried out along the ethnic and racial lines. This type of scenario would very likely be accompanied by violent replacements of the population, similarly to what had happened in Bosnia 1992-1995.
But in any case, the change from within America is something highy desirable.
