Thinking about it, other precedents of America's support to Muslim states include their support to Morocco's march over the Spanish Sahara (Western Sahara) in 1975, and until today their support to Moroccan expansion in this territory against the desires of native Saharans.
If the U.S. manage to force the entry of Turkey in Europe, I have few doubt that their next candidate will be Morocco.

The Commissioner for European Union enlargement, Olli Rehn, is pressing to accept Turkey in the E.U. with declarations like that
if Sarkozy succeeds in blocking the entry of Turkey to the E.U., the consequence will be a clash of civilisations between Europe and Islam.
