True, but just a precision : I don't think that the author meant the "Pieds-Noirs" with his comparison, but rather the ethnic Arabs/Kabyls who supported France (the
Harkis were their military force). In 1962 out of 9 million people living in Algeria there were about one million ethnic French and two million pro-French Algerians (and they were the majority before 1954 and the war, which explains why much of FLN's strategy was to kill French civilians so the French army had to lead reprisals against Arabs, so as to unite Algerian people against France).
