Default Re: Northern Ireland Unionist Leader Meets With Prime Minister of Ireland

Quote:
The Catholics of Northern Ireland, of course, feel a strong affinity towards the Irish Republic, but the leaders of this republic are traitors, their policy does anything but represent their peoples' wishes and dishounours those having sacrified themselves for a free Ireland.
Sad. Still, it is the reunification of the nation of Ireland that must be taken into account, not of any state of Ireland. The problems with the politians are not unique to the Republic of Ireland. I think that we can all agree in that.

Quote:
I am watching this conflict with both, interest and disgust. My grandma was Protestant and politically rather neutral, of course she was disgusted by British crimes, but on the other hand chasing Protestants for the reason they just are Prots is not nice either.
We can also agree in that Protestant here is, under the present situation, a political and not a religious issue. Therefore one which would go away once the source of the problem (Britain) is gone.

Quote:
Another aspect is ethnicity, many inhabitants of Northern Ireland do not consider themselves as Irish but as Ulster-Scots.
Which is the same as saying Northern Irish. Or Irish from the Ulster province. That's no ethnic difference within a nation. A sub-ethnic difference? Sure.
