It's called Calcio Fiorentino. It's a predecessor to football. Originally reserved only for aristocrats who played between epiphany and lent, it was played by the popes Clement VII, Leo IX and Urban VII. After not being played for some two hundred years it started being played again in 1930, now three matches are played each year at Piazza S. Croce (florence) in the 3rd week of june.
