Re: Croatia upset over EU language proposal
Frankly, who cares?
The insane twaddle of this retarded euro-parliamentarian aside, I am not very upset at all about all of this, because I think Croatia shouldn't join EU in the first place, questions of language and similar being just of second-range importance. Maybe this is even good, maybe the ramblings of this British island ape who shows no respect for Croatian identity, will open eyes to many Croatians to the real nature of this institution and to the kind of treatment we can expect from euro(c)rats.
And what a bunch of nonsense this article contains! It says Croatian linguists are "inventing" some new language. They aren't inventing anything, there were just about 100 words introduced into Croatian language, mainly in the area of the vocabulary of administration. These few words, which were coined from other roots (and all Slavic languages easily coin new words), do not represent a change of language, since everyone even with the least acquaintance with linguistics knows that the lexical level is the most superficial level of any language, morphological and syntactical structures being much more stable constituent elements of the language.
And most of the alleged new words listed in this article are not used at all, it is a sort of joke. For mouse as PC device we say in Croatian miš, which means the animal of the same name.
